Seido retells a story set in ancient Japan that her teacher often told to illustrate what we mean when we say something “purifies karma.” Instead of good deeds undoing harmful karma, the story “Beyond the Pale of Vengeance” points to accepting the consequences of one’s past actions as part of a complete transformation of one’s life.
