Study
Throughout the year, our curriculum highlights a particular theme, for example, we study Buddhist ethics (precepts) in winter and take up koan practice in the summer. Fall and spring intensives (Ango) as well as Monday class series include recommended texts and other resources. Students are free to pace themselves when it comes to text study and find what meets the most pressing needs and questions arising from one's lived experience. It's always good to remember that the map is not the territory. Still, it's helpful to receive some pointers.
Our library at Zen West is stocked with a nice collection to inspire and guide along the way including help with beginning instruction, basic Buddhist teaching, as well as how to address common obstacles and how Zen functions in the everyday life. Participants are welcome to borrow from the library in the lobby at Zen West. Please feel free to ask for recommendations.
